Community Engagement

The best part of being the Member for Bean is interacting with the people I represent. You can see some of the highlights from some recent events since the last election (3 May 2025) below. I will also highlight important upcoming events. For more details on what I am up to visit my Facebook and Instagram.

If you have an event you would like me to attend, please contact my office.

Thanks,

David.

Visit to the Tuggeranong Archery Club

Wishing Craig and Jaiden from Tuggeranong Archery Club all the best at the World Para Archery Championships this coming 22-28 September in Gwangju, South Korea.

Jaiden is only in his third year in the sport, while Craig, who is assisted by his daughter Jacqui, placed 2nd at the last world championships and 4th prior in the WI and VI categories respectively - wonderful achievements for both representing Australia (and Bean!) on the international stage.

Catch-up with students of Norfolk Island Central School at Parliament House

It was great to take the year 5 and 6 students of Norfolk Island Central School on a behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament House today and a tour of the House of Representatives and Senate. Insightful and thoughtful questions from all the students and an invitation to the PM to visit.

I’m looking forward to catching up with the students on the island later this year.

Opening of the Wood-Mico Theatre at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre

It was great to be at the opening of the refurbished Wood-Mico Theatre at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

Visit to Tuggeranong Bushies at Greenway Oval

It was great to get down to support the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and spend time with volunteers and supporters at Greenway Oval and help with the ball drop. The Bushies have had a great second half of the season. The Saturday I visited was no different, putting more than 60 points on the scoreboard a week out from finals.

Vietnam Veterans' Day

On 18 August I joined the Canberra veterans community on Vietnam Veterans Day to honour the brave servicemen and women who fought in the Vietnam War - and to remember the sacrifices they made and the impact on their families and communities. Lest we forget!

Launching National Science Week 2025

Thank you to the Questacon team for inviting me to the launch of National Science Week, and including me in the experiment! Science isn’t just facts—it’s the art of asking bold questions and chasing wild ideas.

Opening of the Tuggeranong Medicare Mental Health Centre

On 28 July, I was joined by the Hon Emma McBride, the Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, to officially open the
new Medicare Mental Health Centre in Tuggeranong.

People living in Canberra’s southern suburbs can now access free, walk-in mental health support at the centre.

More information.

Last Post Ceremony

Only 21 July, before the commencement of Parliament we gathered for the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by generations of Australians to ensure the freedoms we have today. Lest we forget.

Commemorating the 287 people who lost their lives on MH17

On 19 July we came together to remember the 287 people, including 38 Australians, who were killed 11 years ago when Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine by a Russian missile.

Our thoughts remain with those who lost their lives as a result of Russia’s actions, their families and loved ones. While we cannot take away the grief of those left behind, we will continue to stand with them in that grief and pursue justice for this horrific act.

Kitchen Garden at Namadgi School

I visited Namadji School in Kambah recently and was shown the gardens, composting, cooking and science classes with Principal Gareth Richard.

2025 Vinnies CEO Sleepout

On Thursday 19 June, I will participated in my eleventh Vinnies CEO Sleepout at the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House.

Homelessness can affect anyone - women, men, and children. It has devastating consequences for individuals and families. St Vincent de Paul empowers people to get off the streets and into stable accommodation. Vinnies provides counselling, education, health and employment services to help people to lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty.

Thank you for your support - it is truly appreciated.

The the inaugural National Police Legacy Day

This month I had the privilege to speak at the launch of the first National Police Legacy Day. On 17 June every year Police Legacy Day will honour the work of the nation’s eight police legacy organisations and the invaluable support they provide to police and their families in some of the most difficult and tragic circumstances.
